You can step straight onto the coastal path at the bottom of the garden! If you head east towards Portland you can follow the meandering path, whilst enjoying very beautiful views of Chesil Beach. The vibrant colours and wildlife of Chesil Beach are stunning no matter what time of year it is. You can then loop back up and head back to Moonfleet via the Old Fleet Church. Don’t forget that parts of the walk are right on the water’s edge so walking boot or wellies are recommended!
The perfect family walk, you will be able to see views from the southern tip of the island. The Portland race has wrecked many ships over hundreds of years, while you walk around the lighthouse at Portland Bill you will discover the details of these. This walk is also fantastic for those who wish to do a bit of bird spotting, in the Spring you can catch glimpses of birds arriving from the south for the summer and then as they head south in the Autumn. Don’t forget to stop in by the Lobster Pot café by Portland Bill to try one of their famous cream teas!
This walk has a number of historical buildings for young adventurers to explore as go. From hilltop ruins to 5th century chapels – you will definitely feel like you are taking a walking through history. This route isn’t suitable for those will small children – there are some steep sections.
