Portland English Heritage
Overlooking Portland Harbour, just 4 miles from Weymouth stands one of Henry VIII’s finest coastal forts whatever the weather. Let the fascinating audio tour and informative displays take you through 450 years of history. Enjoy the dramatic sea views as you explore the garden. The famous land mark Portland Bill stands 153ft high at the very top of the island, it was built around 1903. Surrounded by spectacular views this makes the perfect spot for those blustery winter walks.
Monkey World, Ape Rescue Centre
Set in the heart of the Dorset countryside this park is home to over 230 rescued and endangered apes and monkeys. Many have been neglected, kept in unnatural conditions so the park now allows them to enjoy the company of their own kind in a safe, natural environment. The park is spread over 65 acres offering a wide range of primates from Woolly Monkeys, Squirrel Monkeys to Orang-utans. The Chimpanzee Nursery is a must to visit. Weymouth Sealife Centre
With over a 1000 creatures to discover, an amazing underwater tunnel you walk through, rock pool adventure, great children’s rides and much more this park offers a full days entertainment for the whole family. Lyme Regis – Dinosaurland Fossil Museum
Probably the best collection of fossils on public display in SW England to include local Jurassic Marine Fossils as well the more exotic additions like the Chinese Dinosaurs, Russian Cave Bear and a 73kg lump of Dinosaur Dung!
