Local attractions

Where do we begin? There are just so many things to do within easy reach of Moonfleet. Let’s start with Weymouth’s four mile Blue Flag beach, replete with the best sandcastle-building sand on the south coast, as well as Punch & Judy, donkey rides, funfairs and proper deckchairs.

Abbotsbury Swannery

Abbotsbury – The Swannery

Dorset’s world famous sanctuary with over 600 free flying friendly swans. Hundreds of cygnets hatch around the pathways during mid May to late June. The fluffy cygnets develop into engaging clumsy teenagers before many attempt to gain their wings through July to October. Each day there is a spectacular mass feeding of the swans. Some lucky children will be asked to help. During October some swans move off site for the winter, however the influx of other wildfowl makes this a special time to visit. Open daily at 10am during March to November. Situated in Abbotsbury, New Barn Road DT3 4JG.

Welcome to the home of the tank

The tank was a British invention that changed warfare for ever when it was introduced during world war one - and Bovington has been the home of the tank ever since..

From the Somme to Tiananmen Square or D-Day to Desert Storm the tank has played a part in shaping history and it continues to do so today. The tank museum has a unique collection of over 300 vehicles and it is regarded as the best in the world and includes the worlds first ever tank, the feared German Tiger tank and the modern Challenger 2.

Tha tank museum exhibitions tell the story of armoured warfare from world war one to the present day. As you explore the museum's six large halls you will come face to face with vehicles that have seen action in all the major wars of the 20th century and hear first hand accounts from those who fought in them.
