Our hotel

Moonfleet is a great big, friendly Georgian manor house, built a couple of hundred years ago for Maximilian Mohune (the Mohunes of Fleet became Moonfleet).

Sitting just behind Chesil Beach, with the Fleet Lagoon in between, this is a spectacular and magical location. The sense of light and tranquility is truly special.

Steeped in smuggling history, the House formed the backdrop for John Mead Falkner’s swashbuckling novel of the same name, where the book's hero, John Trenchard, discovered Blackbeard’s diamond and escaped the clutches of those nasty revenue men! Indeed, many of the Hotel’s 36 bedrooms carry the names of characters from the book. How many can you find?
